older poems (1991) "Looking Up..."

(Background – our youngest son was in a strange hospital – 40 miles from our home – during the night his IV was changed from one arm to the other. While no-one entered his room according to his charts.)
“Looking up . . .”
cji 1991
From tear stained eyes
just above my son's
hospital bed
the veil was thin
and there caring
for him
was an
administering angel;
She had
a continence
not unlike his mother
and a familiarity
to Morgen, only an
older sister could have;
An I leaned over
describing this scene
to my loving wife,
his mother
and both
she and I
slept soundly
when the veil
was thin
and my son
comforted . . .”
