Never
much progress seen
razor wire
and land mines
ditches
and trenches dug
machine
gun fire overhead
inching
through the muck
till
foot by foot, yard by yard
overcoming
adversaries all
retreating
not into the day
but
striving always forward
pushing
ahead inch by inch
freedom’s
terrible sacrifice
unseen
through eyes blind
feelings
unable to feel
wherein
thought entitled
to
freedom’s blood for them!
