A 12” tree trunk filled with ball

seventeen balls within a circle

twenty-two dead soldiers there

in-mass shooting this day found

opening the New Year parade;

 

Shrouding in the foggy morning

some with coffee mugs in hand

others as if still in slumber sleep

targets in the gallery on the field

called Tennessee or Hell’s Gate!
