Drifting
back into our time
history leaps
from the pages
romantic
and seemingly great
our
minds envision the heroes
while
the order of the day forgot
hard
work – sweat and effort
once a
week, month, year
baths
and even to relax
while
movies portray other
reality
is just the opposite
long
hours – everyone works
for not
to work was to starve
not to
own a weapon defeat
guarding
against all things
mostly
diseases and war
to the
forests for meat
gardens
for vegetables
sheep,
goats, cows, chickens
even
pigs for some well off
darkened
interiors with candles
wood
smoke ever pervasive
early
times in America
fighting
weather and foes
fighting
disease and heat
fighting
severe cold often
history
leaps from the pages
never in
our time drifting!
