Driving rains and winds
heat and snakes about
in-coming and shooting
landmines and tanks
aircraft overhead often
but still the grunt alone
watching his six and others
wondering why they were
wading in waist deep water;
Teenagers away from home
no playgrounds or pools
just the heat and snakes
driving rains and winds
landmines and tanks
seeking out the enemy
extending forth a hand
for those who waded
through waste deep water!
