Explosives over head
rocks and dirt exploding
deeper – deeper down
digging always deeper
trying to escape beneath
yet knowing not where
hiding from the truth
while others at us stare
as a knife in a sheaf
tunneling down steeper
in the mud as if to drown
one’s mind oft imploding
deep ditches fear fed.
