“All the Leafs Are Gone”

Amazingly all the leafs are gone

those who left first to the ground

now in the soil to meld and decay

while those leafs last to fall today

cushion and protecting the soil;

 

Even as the last leaf fell to earth

again the branches to bud anew

new branches as vines appear

slender shoots of richest brown

magical watching nature renew;

 

The natural laws all life to follow

now the older branches to bud

first to replenish the tree in color

the newest to grow delicately

giving proper work each to do;

 

Nothing found alone in nature

birds arriving to inspect and taste

nibbling here and there excited

as all the leafs now are gone

nature in her course complete!
