A day
set aside to honor and pray
having as
American’s killed part
remembering
the worst and best
shattering
lives and being reborn
baptized
in the flames of cannons
putting
to the torch our America
in a way
no enemy has ever done
(not
counting those from within today)
but can
we take the time to respect
what
took place long ago amid us
where
families destroyed within
children
learned to fight and kill
retreat
unable to call until death
today’s
the substitute for then
just a
holiday to shop and play
