Late each night it begins

first the call to assembly

mustering of the troops

checking old uniforms

calling of the rolls

then CO speaks clearly

allowing each to know

daily damage done

treason in congress

allowing each to speak

wondering what more

they could’ve done

having given their all

just not enough today

while hearing voices

sobbing and the tears

then sounding of taps

then sounding of taps!
