“Unable to Restrain”

Was it the flag half
mast
or the bugle calls echo
the caisson and limbers
a slow cadence beat
looking faraway seeing
lines upon lines of
troops
another of our own
coming home with friends
slowly tears my cheeks
lined as glistening crystal
unable to restrain self
while in self-control
hearing repeatedly
the bugle’s echos!
