Faint”

Once they heard us
coming
young and so
confident all
immortal some thought
to be
while knowing more of
fear
begetting courage
shown
age and time have
gone
we’re more quiet
within
oh yes we’re still
the strong
riding white chargers
in awe
but now we’re more
tired
slower to mount the
stairs
no longer seen as
youth
yielding to yet
another
for all now see and
hear
our footsteps growing
faint!
