Sent to Auschwitz alone
bride sent to another
citizens of Poland
the Warsaw Ghetto
without food or hope
stripped naked in pit
dug by self/others
rifles lifted to kill all
then a rifle butt to see
extended once, twice
three times in total
naked with 3 now
running to the woods
escaping mass murder
captured again later
escaped once more
captured again later
sent to camp of bride
nursed back to life
hope and understanding
love and warmth
not found in Germany
not found in rescue
helping others to flee
into camps of hope
till after four years
helping others all
able to America come
free, alive, knowing
meanings – feelings
emotions – understandings
4th of July known
unlike any other
freedom elsewhere
so fully unknown!
