“Anyplace
But Here”

I wish I were on my way
to anyplace but here;
I don’t like the cold steel bars
and the warmth they won’t hold;
I was lonely, going my way
now behind these bars I’ll stay;
Having been left to my own
All day I ran and played;
Then I happened to stray
Too far away from here;
Crime was so becoming
but never able to hold;
Today left to my own
I’d be far away from here;
Riches were evil sought
a trap instead found;
Now I’m here confined in time
behind these cold bars of steel!
