“Shipwreck”
cji
12/30/18 (1960 was 15)
Black was that night
the wind blowing cold
the sea lashing us with her might
making one feel old;
The ship strained and tightened
then with a sickening roll
we knew she wouldn’t righten
and we all prayed below;
We began to think
as the water poured in
and she began to sink
the sea committed a mighty sin;
A voice roared out
telling us what to do
and not for us to doubt
or we’d get our due;
The mate was right
and as we obeyed
things didn’t look bright
but none were dismayed;
For three long hours
we fought the sea
to save what was ours
and beat the sea;
But all was lost
as our strength ebbed out
many lives the cost
as the sea stood stout;
Brightness gone
pastels now in view
the days gone
night whispers through!
