“Poppy’s”

Each year the VFW sell poppy’s
allowing us each to remember
sacrifices so that we are free
that so many so long ago fought
in lands far from their safe homes
that all would know freedom’s cost;
But now with apathy so much is lost
people treating others as stones
citizenship in schools not taught
only that entitlements are all free
sadly too many of us in December
the last of the few buying poppy’s!
