“Paroled
After Battle”
cji
7/4/13
No
longer to fight until
An exchange
to fill;
One for
one equal rank
Till put
in holding tank;
Called
detention camps
Marked with
evil stamps;
Poor
food and civil rights
Attacked
by own at nights;
Others
wandering home
Created problem
of own;
Some
send West to fight
Many to
escape in full flight;
Problems
and logistics
More than
mere statistics;
Honor
bound all to obey
Laying down
arms to stay;
A person’s
word to honor
Never ever
to dishonor;
Yet long
ago was not now
Virtue,
honor to not vow;
Throughout
all history
Stopped without
mystery;
The
Civil War was the end
To prison
camps to send;
Many
inefficiencies to be
No longer
soldier to be free!
