“Getting Caught Up”

Jumping in an icy river
flows all around moving
having to go upstream
spring thaw in flood stage
swimming mightily forever
plow anchor attached
wondering at progress
watching turtles swim by
those on the shore giggle
‘you’ll never catch up’
unknowing how to quit
hypothermia setting in
gaining an inch here
losing a foot there
getting caught up
not for weak at heart
somewhere to start
unlike those who fly!!
