Infested
with snakes and worse
mines and
traps and snares
diseased
algae and mosquitos
still
alert to the sign of enemy
rifles
held ready and locked
mindful
of their mission now
understanding
this importance
wading
in the swamps of time
preparing
for the eternal space
when
man/woman will know
that
there is much worse
than
waste deep water
with
snakes and vermin
mines
and traps and snares
awaiting
in murky darkness!
