“Each Fought Well”

Each to the battlefield to enter
age and sex un-mattering to any
bullets, land mines, bombs blind
disease and other wages of war
lingering a passive death knoll
years to pass uncounted in tears
till awakening only then to die
widows and orphans then to cry
the lingering in our mind fears
who next will blindness toll
once strong and vital now tore
so long ago nightmares remind
striking on the battlefield many
a disease process ‘in venter’!
