Toes”

Visited
a nursery other day
very unusual
to observe
quickly
moving crib to crib
dusting
toes lightly to coos
over and
over not too much
just the
right amount to do
soon the
whole room cooing
then
again soundly to sleep
wondering
the why of this
explained
started years ago
seeing
little toes lined up
just the
lightest touch
since it
was dark about
didn’t
want to scare babies
so while
humming dusting
letting
them know it was I
each
seemed to love it
even
knowing when late
little
toes dusted gentle
chasing
away dust mites
inviting
in sleep gently!
