So often one recalls a sermon

thinking aloud preaching again

but always to the choir alone

never to those who need hearing

never to those who need healing

always to those who are immune

the choir apathetic wanting more

till the preaching seems in vain

absenteeism a pathetic disease

contagious and without merit

those who hear want to hear

have already heard to obey

honoring their covenants

never having this disease

called absenteeism by some!
