"In Passing"

It is sometimes difficult to express feelings when a loved on passed from mortality. This is the total purpose which we came willingly to receive a mortal body at some point to leave mortality and return to our Heavenly Father and our Savior his Only Begotten Jesus Christ.  Many times in our lives we'll have loved ones who'll cross the veil from mortality. Depending on one's beliefs there is much understanding or very little. As you know it is my belief that mortality is just a short stop between the pre-existence and to the next life which is what the Savior taught. The Prophets have compared this to a 'blinking of the eye' relative to the eternities. We've to remember that while in this life we've much to learn and discern - but most that even though a loved one has gone on to their next stages - they've left us memories called lessons of love and thus they're never really gone if we allow these memories to live with us and use them in our lives. When a Grandparent passes many are fortunate in that they knew them – while other like me had all my Grandparents pass away before I was even born - but through research I was able to learn of them and seek what they might've wanted me to know from them. Yes sadness and sorrow - but also happiness that those who've passed no longer have to suffer in this life. Years ago I wrote an essay asking the question why the good people died so soon - those who were good to me and others - while those who were mean seemed to stay on. I was only 14 or 15 and had lost a lot of adults who worked with other youths and myself. My answer came in the realization that they had done their part and therefore were needed on the other side of the veil - while those who were difficult to deal with had to continue in this life with much to learn and endure. (Note: this does not apply to all but at 14-15 it sure seemed that way.)

Of course all of this is difficult to grasp but we must remember who is running things and the Plan of Salvation - which then puts things in perspective.

We must always retain the memories of those who’ve passed - the good ones - the lessons learned - and the love found - it is still there and will be throughout your mortal lives. And then some day in the future we'll be re-united if worthy; and believe me they'll be watching our progress and will want a report when meeting once more.

“In Passing”
(when a loved one
passes the veil)

Thoughts quickly ranging
sorrow, loneliness, fear
wishing for more time
one more conversation
even for a hug or kiss
now only the memory
times experienced alive
private moments reflect
grasping the purpose of life
to come for a while short
then to return to Father
as the Only Begotten
taught us all to know
in passing hearts awake
remembering who we are
children of Father all
returning home once more!
