Note: for over 40 years my family has known
Elder Boyd K. Packer. He was one our older son’s favorite Apostle to listen to
at Stake Conference even as an infant. By age 4 he had already used up the film
strip of ‘Worthy Music – Worthy Thoughts’ – now it was on cassette (and that
was soon needing to be replaced). Over the years our family has listened to as
many of his talks as have found on cassette/cd/dvd and some of these go back
some 50+ years when he served the Church in other callings. His impact and our
love for him has grown over the years. While he is now aged – and his health is
limited – his Spirit is still strong and vibrant. Listening to him today – even
watching for him at each of the Conference Meetings seeing his chair empty –
left a loneliness within my heart. So lifted was it when he spoke this
afternoon. Having only ever met him in person once (Kingsland Stake Conference
many years ago) – the impression still lingers – to the words and lessons he
taught. Thus here is my tribute to him – his family and all of those who serve
with him and have served with him over the years gone past. How much his words
and examples have influenced especially me and my family! c/ork
