"So Long Ago..."

“SO LONG AGO…”

cji
6/17/19
(and before)

WHEN I WAS YOUNG
AND I LOVED TO LAUGH
AND THEN COULD CRY
AND BE ANYONE
OR BE ANYTHING
HOWEVER SMALL
HOWEVER LARGE
UNDERSTOOD
OR MIS UNDERSTOOD
WHEN THEIR WERE NO DECISIONS
AND NEVER A CARE
WHEN SO LONG AGO
WHEN I WAS YOUNG
AND LIFE WAS FUN
And now this time
gone and forever done
unless I grasp the ring
holding tight to good
forgetting the past
so long ago
when I was young!

"Ice Fires on the Sabbath"

Some related factors to the fodder of Ice Fires in the Gospel:
1. Life is not fair: The challenge is to prepare and to respond with patience, understanding, forgiveness and to not take things done by others as personal attacks. We need to know that failure is not an end, and not to give up in the face of adversity.
(Reference: Job, the Apostles, Jesus)
2. We are our brother's (sister's) keeper: In prison camps a great wisdom is taught, we must be part of a team, or others, to be alone - is to be defeated of self-preservation. The highest value was to support the man next door.
(Home teaching, visiting teaching, the Second Great commandment all help to serve this purpose. However, we as individuals, can only share with others honestly - through the heart, and only then will we know what our brother or sister really needs.)
3. We can't worry about things we can't control: We can only control our attitude, the way we think about things. We only waste energy, time, and emotion trying to deal with situations over which you have not caused and cannot control. We have to find a way to take charge of those things you can control - take charge, we have to have control of our attitude.
(We can say we're sorry, we can be the first to extend a hand of fellowship, we can be the difference in having good feelings in areas where you are present.)
4. Courage is endurance in the presence of fear: Others will always try to manipulate us through fear or guilt. Guilt can mean feeling inadequate - feeling that we never measure up to expectations or that 'I'm not good enough.' Fear of failure can be a great motivator, but if these feelings get out of control, they can (and will) destroy us. There is never a reason to compromise honor, to compromise honor will begin depression and guilt, and will allow another to control us.
(Living our religion is an act of great courage in the latter-days. The ability to have already made decisions of honor, commitment, stewardship, love and obedience are the ingredients of showing courage instead of fear.)
5. Hatred is self-defeating: We cannot always prevent anger. It can be a healthy reaction to the adversity and unfairness we face in life. But, we cannot allow it to fester or develop into bitterness or hatred, anger becomes a destabilizing emotion. Anger like all emotions needs to be harnessed as a tool. In this manner anger gives us another meaningful tool rather than a detractor from our self-worth. This means we have to resist self-pity and by becoming fully engaged with our brothers and sisters - helping others and being encouraged by them.

sending forth pine smoke
heating intensely then gone
a couple hours of doctrine
partaking of the Sacrament
then into the world to play
playing always with the fire
ice fires of the Sabbath Day!

Into the hallways
Found many days;

Climbing the stairs
Feeling the stares;

Mostly in the nights
Afraid of the lights;

Lurking in the shadows
Never knowing who knows;

They call 'The Lurk’
One of your homes perk;

Others call me a ghost
Using your home my host!

of our flag we hold dear!

or are you a bad example
are you a good of a bad
each will be used as found
nothing goes unused
thus if you’re good of good

then you’ll be accountable!

Whom do you trust
in man or in God
matters your answer
so many trust God not
but follow the arm of flesh
seeking men/women
before their Heavenly Father
how long do they think
surviving on weaknesses
ignoring pure love
and the strength
of their God?

Let’s put it on the table
most can read and write
most Bibles are free
most all Scriptures are so
all is on-line for the taking
so what is the problem?

Recognized leaders giving up
saying satan has already won
if you join them you error greatly
read what the Lord’s written
what His Prophets have said
then and now for all to hear!

Father’s children will win out
no matter how bad it looks
righteous people must endure
this means to the very end
com-on people head up
smile the best/worst yet to come!

Unlike some we’ve rules
seeking harmony within
and survival without
some call rules obsolete
others just ignore them
some use them as defense
when caught doing wrong
but we’ve all rules to obey
starting with Commandments
whether one believes or not
one day all will know truth
when it’s too late not to!

Gale force winds whipping
ice, snow, rain, sleet, hail
deepening into darkness
while daylight all around

just keeping walking
into this dream unending
awake, asleep, awake
caves deeper becoming!

"Ministering: Dress and Appearance"

Too many today are experiencing doubt and acceptance – society has no such concerns – the break up of the family unit is foremost – by any means possible – and personal modesty is part and parcel of what needs to be destroyed. Consider the following:

Dress and Appearance

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? … The temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
young woman smiling

Your body is sacred. Respect it and do not defile it in any way. Through your dress and appearance, you can show that you know how precious your body is. You can show that you are a disciple of Jesus Christ and that you love Him.
Prophets of God have continually counseled His children to dress modestly. When you are well groomed and modestly dressed, you invite the companionship of the Spirit and you can be a good influence on others. Your dress and grooming influence the way you and others act.
Never lower your standards of dress. Do not use a special occasion as an excuse to be immodest. When you dress immodestly, you send a message that is contrary to your identity as a son or daughter of God. You also send the message that you are using your body to get attention and approval.
Immodest clothing is any clothing that is tight, sheer, or revealing in any other manner. Young women should avoid short shorts and short skirts, shirts that do not cover the stomach, and clothing that does not cover the shoulders or is low-cut in the front or the back. Young men should also maintain modesty in their appearance. Young men and young women should be neat and clean and avoid being extreme or inappropriately casual in clothing, hairstyle, and behavior. They should choose appropriately modest apparel when participating in sports. The fashions of the world will change, but the Lord’s standards will not change.
Do not disfigure yourself with tattoos or body piercings. Young women, if you desire to have your ears pierced, wear only one pair of earrings.
Show respect for the Lord and yourself by dressing appropriately for Church meetings and activities. This is especially important when attending sacrament services. Young men should dress with dignity when officiating in the ordinance of the sacrament.
If you are not sure what is appropriate to wear, study the words of the prophets, pray for guidance, and ask your parents or leaders for help. Your dress and appearance now will help you prepare for the time when you will go to the temple to make sacred covenants with God. Ask yourself, “Would I feel comfortable with my appearance if I were in the Lord’s presence?”
How does my testimony of the gospel influence my choice of clothing?

Floundering in clothing stores
fashion parades or dancing
modern movies and magazines
advertising such a great risk
but, I’m a child of God at any age
and therefore have greater goals
much of world knows me not
other than being unique to them
modest in dress and grooming
presenting neat and a purity
a child of God at any age!

so others may be free
seventy-five years later
shamelessly hating the US
ignoring prices paid 6/6/44
awaited, feared, D-Day
worse than ever thought
prices paid but now forgotten
how very sad and regretful!

"A Brother to a Brother"

I’ve a very good friend help me to save poems written on the International War Veterans Poetry Association – here’s from the Prologue to the first of the published books - chuck

Charles J. Ingerson

A BROTHER TO A BROTHER

Tony Pahl and Chuck Ingerson
(Prelude: To Tony P.
Bound in hearts
a wound sharing
each word imparts
not seen wearing.

Boots put away
uniforms unworn
hoping on today
not again torn.

It’s thoughts oft
bridging this gap
whispers so soft
on the door rap.

Carrying to one
feelings of the other
something’s undone
a brother to a brother.)

Solidified
It isn’t touching
neither a weakness
memories clutching
humbled meekness.

Returning somewhere
trying to navigate
a faith to share
futures contemplate.

Frustration
Waiting for a wreck
crashing tangles
never to check
fate only dangles.

Often in neglect
political angles
leaving regret
lights and bangles.

Recollections
Not from the past
into the present
a future to last
tomorrow to resent.

Seeping away lust
feeling to rehash
inviting new trust
only then to crash.

Sadness
He’s not here
can’t find anywhere
do you see him
can you hear him
screaming his name
but he’s not here.
Memories
Flags and parades
chairs strewn about
papers and charades
none left to shout.

Finding older dust
uniforms just fade
weapons to rust
to rest thus laid.

Hopes once bright
carried far aloft
pushing the night
in memories oft.

Real
Something to touch
letting cool my skin
not ever very much
never real to win.

Wounds not seen
found deep within
bleeding and lean
in the crowds din.

Frightening
Spacing into frantic
allowing in the fear
remembering awe
so very, very clear.

Moments to give in
again trying to hide
frightening dreams
each night to ride.

Navigate
Charting a new course
finding each marker
avoiding the reefs
into deep waters
using the stars
colder the sky
asking me why
clinging to hope
shattered in light
waves dwarfing all
clouds hide the sun
winds increasing force.
Knowledge
Build
reject
build again
reject again
begin all over
begin all over
begin all over
how can this be
where to go next
fighting so inside
fighting so inside.
Unable
No more found
not looking
unable
can
anyone
not looking
understand
To Grasp
Ingrained a strength
which sweeps within
blood to flow at length
finding the Wall thin.

Feeling hands to hold
old friends calling out
to grasp from the cold
giving us a redoubt.

Faith
One more day
another night
one more stay
another fight.

Never letting go
finding in faith
able to grow
now in faith.

(Epilogue: A Brother
Guessing each alone
could stand the test
and a message to loan
if numbers impressed.

There together bound
one upon the other
in sequence found
a brother to a brother.)
