Of
prayer many have in vain repetitions over centuries engaged themselves. Some
have one for every situation or even a patron saint to call upon. While almost
all of the organized religions of the world teach that the heavens are closed
yet allow their followers to engage in this endless activity knowing there are
no answers to prayers – for if there were the heavens would be open still. Thus
they’ve allowed set prayers knowing they cannot keep any from offering and in
most places of worship prayers are vainly repeated.
Yet
what is prayer and why are they of value or are they worthless as much of the
world profess. Within the Scriptures we find divine direction on how to pray
and in what order – but never to vainly repeat words over and over without
changing. The Lord’s Prayer is only an example of the order of prayer. We
address Heavenly Father – we express our gratefulness for all things – thankful
for our daily needs – in some we request advice (James 1:5) – in others we
express our grief – and in all cases we ask our supplications in the name of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ the literal Son of our Heavenly Father.
Without understanding the relationship of us to our Father – and his to his Son
– our Savior – our prayers are without merit. To pray to any other – or to
various saints or different gods is meaningless. While there’s a feel good –
and one feels self-justified – still without being obedient to the commandments
and commands of the Father, Son, Prophets (then and now), Apostles – we’ve
small merit in seeking heavenly advice or direction. Thus most religions allow
set prayers to appease the need to pray – while again teaching the heavens are
closed and the Father and the Son no longer communicate with those on this
earth.
Let’s
return to the idea that prayers are worthless. This was presented to me by
another who wonders of the value of praying when one is degraded, selfish,
foolish, unbelieving and any other situation of being un-obedient to the
Commandments. My reply was, “Prayer is only worthless when the person saying
them is worthless and only seeking worldly praise!” Having said that one must
remember – things will get very bad – even the elect will be fooled – faith in
the LORD our Heavenly Father – and in his only begotten our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ – will go and get us where we need to be – but of course this
requires obedience – full obedience – and there is only ‘one way’ to follow –
not any path one decides. Therefore our prayers are to be personal, in full
compliance with the order of prayer but never in vain repetitions and only to
our Heavenly Father and only through our mediator with the Father his only
begotten Son our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Which
type of pray do we offer? And do we expect answers to our prayers? And if we do
expect answers why do those who lead the various religious denominations of the
world deny the heavens are open?
To
me when I pray – I know my Heavenly Father is a real person and hears what I’ve
to communicate – and most times I feel very unworthy – but still I will
supplicate myself to him and his will. Striving to be obedient in all things
(which is very difficult as a mortal) I seek Father’s help in doing better.
Most of all I know of the Atonement of Jesus Christ my older brother for me, my
family, loved ones and everyone born in this world’s mortal probation.
Hopefully, each and all understand the same – c/ork
