“The
West of 1860”
cji
6/1/14
Wild
imaginations to envision
running rivers
and great forests
cold and
freezing stream beds
trouble
behind every (what?)
for
Nebraska had no trees*
thus a
wilderness of deserts
plains
rolling with strong winds
Wyoming
at heights of 6000’
sometimes
higher to need climb
the
Grand Canyon to cross
without
roads and faint trails
none
much like we see today
or even
in the old Westerns
more
like in Hondo found
blistering
hot or freezing cold
sand
storms and blizzards
the West
of the 1860’s!
(*1872
over a million trees
planted in
Nebraska as it
was mostly
barren)
