“A Long Watch”

Starting in the Spring
standing forth counted
even from our birth
even before this earth
our trials surmounted
blessings thus to bring;

Extending in Summer
lives to thus blossom
being found fruitful
completing tasks useful
finding much awesome
found our own drummer;

Reaching through Fall
our leaves descending
magnificent in color
steps taken now smaller
others on us depending
clarion we hear the call;

Finally into our Winter
where now we stand
thus this a long watch
sewing in the last swatch
obeying the least command
no longer the sprinter!

(Addendum:

To stand a long watch
protecting our freedoms
preparing his kingdoms
Satan’s goals to blotch!)
