So easy to say and easy to be sincere
many abuse and confuse its meaning
pleading for the evil without the good
understanding not why some repulsed
selfishly feeling all owe them so much
while using the word please in apathy
so easy to say this word as ‘please’
while so hard to discern its meaning
known to a child simply as courtesy
when in need of help from another!

Characterized by determination to be true
undeterred by the loathsome worldly jeers
found often alone and shut out by peers
never given a glance to your pure view;

As Socrates’ forced to drink the hemlock
those with honesty found the same today
while all about the ill-repute scorn and play
and of your virtue they laugh and mock;

Honesty, charity, virtue, chastity of value
lauded throughout the heavenly abode
requiring one on this earth to be very bold
representing the highest mortal statue!

Ht'ing Message - April 2013

HT’ing Message: He Is Risen President Henry B. Eyring 1st Counselor in the First Presidency

A testimony of the reality of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is a source of both hope and determination. And it can be so for any child of God. It was for me on a summer day in June 1969 when my mother died, it has been all the years since, and it will be until I see her again.
Sadness from the temporary separation was immediately replaced with happiness. It was more than a hope for a happy reunion. Because the Lord has revealed so much through His prophets and because the Holy Ghost has confirmed the truth of the Resurrection to me, I can see in my mind what it will be like to be reunited with our sanctified and resurrected loved ones:
“These are they who shall come forth in the resurrection of the just. …
“These are they whose names are written in heaven, where God and Christ are the judge of all.
“These are they who are just men made perfect through Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, who wrought out this perfect atonement through the shedding of his own blood” (D&C 76:65, 68–69).
Because Jesus Christ broke the bands of death, all of the children of Heavenly Father born into the world will be resurrected in a body that will never die. So my testimony and yours of that glorious truth can take away the sting of the loss of a beloved family member or friend and replace it with joyful anticipation and firm determination.
The Lord has given all of us the gift of resurrection, whereby our spirits are placed in bodies free of physical imperfections (see Alma 11:42–44). My mother will appear young and radiant, the effects of age and years of physical suffering removed. That will come to her and to us as a gift.
But those of us who long to be with her forever must make choices to qualify for that association, to live where the Father and His Beloved resurrected Son dwell in glory. That is the only place where family life can continue eternally. A testimony of that truth has increased my determination to qualify myself and those I love for the highest degree of the celestial kingdom through the Atonement of Jesus Christ working in our lives (see D&C 76:70).
The Lord offers us a guide in this quest for eternal life in the sacramental prayers that help me and can help you. We are invited to renew our baptismal covenants in every sacrament meeting.
We promise to always remember the Savior. The emblems of His sacrifice help us appreciate the magnitude of the price He paid to break the bands of death, to offer us mercy, and to provide forgiveness of all our sins if we choose to repent.
We promise to keep His commandments. Reading the scriptures and the words of the living prophets and listening to inspired speakers in our sacrament meetings remind us of our covenants to do so. The Holy Ghost brings to our minds and hearts the commandments we most need to keep that day.
In the sacramental prayers, God promises to send the Holy Ghost to be with us (see Moroni 4:3; 5:2; D&C 20:77, 79). I have found in that moment that God can give me what feels like a personal interview. He brings to my attention what I have done that pleases Him, my need for repentance and forgiveness, and the names and faces of people He would have me serve for Him.
Over the years, that repeated experience has turned hope into feelings of charity and brought an assurance that mercy was unlocked for me by the Savior’s Atonement and Resurrection.
I testify that Jesus is the risen Christ, our Savior, and our perfect example and guide to eternal life.

Teaching from This Message

We should “liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning” (1 Nephi 19:23). Consider reading the sacrament prayers, found in Doctrine and Covenants 20:76–79. After reading President Eyring’s teachings about the sacrament prayers, you may want to invite those you are teaching to think of ways that these prayers can guide their lives and help them return to live again with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Your Personal Interview with God

President Eyring teaches that as we listen to the sacrament prayers, we can feel like we are having a personal interview with God. President Eyring thinks of the following three areas. Consider writing these questions in your journal and pondering them each Sunday this month. As you ponder and receive impressions from the Holy Ghost, you can also write about those in your journal.
·         What have I done that has pleased God?
·         What do I need to repent of or ask forgiveness for?
·         Whom would God like me to serve?

Always Remember Jesus

Jacob is trying to “always remember” the Savior (D&C 20:77). Look around his bedroom. What do you notice that might help him always remember Jesus?

The Savior is not only risen
He’s alive, well and in meeting
finding to partaking of bread
allowing others to touch him
talking and walking with many;

Wherefore how dare doubt any
where his praise found in hymn
once again His Apostles fed
forty days multitude’s greeting
opening gates of spiritual prison!

Vt’ing Teaching: Temple Covenants April 2013

Vt’ing Teaching: Temple Covenants

“The saving ordinances received in the temple that permit us to someday return to our Heavenly Father in an eternal family relationship and to be endowed with blessings and power from on high are worth every sacrifice and every effort,”1 said President Thomas S. Monson. If you have not yet been to the temple, you can prepare to receive sacred temple ordinances by:
·         Believing in Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.
·         Cultivating a testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the restored gospel.
·         Sustaining and following the living prophet.
·         Qualifying for a temple recommend by paying tithing, being morally clean, being honest, keeping the Word of Wisdom, and living in harmony with the teachings of the Church.
·         Giving time, talents, and means to help build the Lord’s kingdom.
·         Participating in family history work.2
President Monson further taught, “As we remember the covenants we make within [the temple], we will be more able to bear every trial and to overcome each temptation.”3

From the Scriptures

From Our History

“More than 5,000 Saints thronged the Nauvoo Temple after its dedication. …
“The strength, power, and blessings of temple covenants [sustained] the Latter-day Saints during their journey [west], when they [suffered] cold, heat, hunger, poverty, sickness, accidents, and death.”4
Like many Relief Society sisters, Sarah Rich served as a temple worker. She spoke of her experience: “If it had not been for the faith and knowledge that was bestowed upon us in that temple by … the Spirit of the Lord, our journey would have been like one taking a leap in the dark. … But we had faith in our Heavenly Father, … feeling that we were His chosen people … , and instead of sorrow, we felt to rejoice that the day of our deliverance had come.”5
The exodus was not a “leap in the dark” for faithful Latter-day Saint women. They were sustained by their temple covenants.

What Can I Do?

1.    Am I worshipping in the temple regularly?
2.    Am I encouraging my sisters to receive temple blessings?

Throughout the history spectrum

callings and revelations confirm

making covenants God and man

each is bound by full obedience

nothing wavering eternal to eternal

enduring to the end for each one

therefore going to the Temple all

worthy to partake and covenant

sealing on this side of the veil

that for the other-side eternally;

A glimmer of what will be always

where worthiness meets love

mercy and justice found as one

harkening to the Scriptures fully

holding hands with our Father

within the hallowed walls sacred

where earth meets the heavens

man and woman become as one

children then sealed in covenant

throughout the eternal spectrum!

“Oh to Know and Understand” cji 3/31/13

“Oh to Know and Understand”  cji 3/31/13

How often one must ponder the Scriptures in understanding the full importance of the Atonement of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The wonder and impact in each of our lives and what it means in the eternities. The magnitude is overwhelming – as he saved from Spiritual death every living soul ever to come into mortality – all not lacking even one no matter when or where they were born or lived. How many one might guess have received this sacred blessing who have never heard or will hear of Him in their lifetimes? Countless billions comes to mind – while only a very small percentage have been given the chance to come to know him and through him the Father who’s will he did in every action of his ministry.

Too many stop simply at being ‘saved’ which all are with the exception of those who deny the Holy Ghost or commit murder (or the shedding of innocent blood). The Scriptures teach us much more than just being ‘saved’ but how we can each earn eternal life. Too often the worldly cares and meaningless tribulations overcome or otherwise distract us in our study and learning curve of eternal life. Many times the teachings of others who are trying to make sense of the Scriptures confound and confuse those who allow them to think for them – rather than doing one’s own homework. Many forget that in the 3rd and 4th Century – St. Augustine and Origen both admitted that didn’t know what much of the Scriptures meant so they applied the learning to men/women to make sense for themselves and ultimately for millions upon millions of others.

Soon the universities and divinity schools were teaching the doctrines which were convenient to these two fathers of the Eastern and Western Christian Churches instead of the Scriptures. They would mix in the rhetoric and Greek philosophy in with the Scriptures. So much history and changes have thus taken place that the simplicity of what the Savior and the Prophets have taught are no longer either simply or clear, concise and common sense.

Let it suffice our Lord and Savior came and did all he was commanded by his Father – he did it voluntarily for our benefit – up to and sacrificing his life to remove spiritual death from the world. He did it for every person born into mortality – all – in toto’ none excepted. Thus we can almost never be found thankful and obedient enough (in our eyes) except in full obedience to the Commandments, Statutes and Laws as established by our Heavenly Father and our Savior, his only begotten Son!

Thus when we consider the Easter Season – let us remember the real and true purpose of what took place and why. May we be found in full understanding by having applied ourselves to reading, pondering, praying and seeking to understand as James 1:5 tells us, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” And verse 6, “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”

This is my prayer for each of us that we might do so – and know for ourselves what the Scriptures teach and want us each to know! I testify that Jesus is the Christ – the Son of our Heavenly Father – who came to remove spiritual death from the world so that someday we might all return onto Him if we are willing to earn this in our eternal salvation. In his name – even Jesus the Christ – amen – c/ork

It is all just there if we will read
our eyes opened into the eternal
plain and precious truths revealed
precept upon precept if we but seek;

Oh for each of us to be humbly meek
having our testimonies forever sealed
understanding we too can be eternal
oh to know and understand and heed!
